T°PATCH THE NEW REFERENCE STANDARD FOR
CATHETER INFECTION PREVENTION
About us
Infections associated with the use of venous access devices (central and peripheral) represent a significant problem not only from a clinical perspective but also economically and organizationally. Although the data
may vary depending on various factors, the literature consistently reports very high costs associated with these complications. It
is estimated that catheter infections account for about 15-25% of all healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), although the
exact percentage may vary depending on the facility and patient population.

They are among the most serious diseases because there is a risk of
rapid development of sepsis and intensive therapy is often necessary.
Hospital stay (often 7 to 14 days longer than non-infected patients), use of targeted antibiotic therapy (sometimes prolonged), additional diagnostic tests and microbiological examinations, removal or replacement of the catheter and installation of a new venous access. These are all factors that imply extra expenses for a hospital.

INFECTIONS CAUSED BY CATHETERS
PERIPHERAL VENOUS CATHETERS (PVC)
Although these infections are generally less common and less severe than central venous catheter-related infections (partly due to the shorter duration of peripheral catheters), they still represent a significant clinical and economic problem due to the high use of central venous catheters.
WHY TEMPERATURE MONITORING IS SO IMPORTANT
One of the first and most evident signs of inflammation (often called "phlogosis") or infection at an access site is a local increase in temperature. That's why a thermochromic system like T-Patch can help:
- An increase in temperature at the catheter insertion site often precedes other visible signs, such as swelling or redness. Therefore, temperature monitoring is an important method for early diagnosis.
- If a local increase in skin temperature is detected early, medical staff can intervene immediately and prevent more serious complications, such as phlebitis (inflammation of the veins), infections, or tissue damage.
- Identifying the problem at an early stage significantly reduces the risk of more serious issues (such as
thrombophlebitis or severe infections).
- T-Patch or similar systems can simplify the workflow, reduce the time spent on repetitive manual checks, and allow staff to focus on immediate intervention when a change is detected.
